Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Legal Aide to join our dynamic team. The Legal Aide will provide essential support in helping freelancers navigate a variety of legal issues, including misclassification, non-payment, intellectual property rights, contract disputes and drafting, workplace abuse, and other labor concerns. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting workers and interested in gaining experience in labor and employment law.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to inquiries from freelancers via email and phone, addressing their legal concerns and providing information on available resources.
- Conduct legal research on issues such as misclassification, non-payment, intellectual property, and contract disputes, and various other issues.
- Communicate with freelancers to gather necessary documentation, offer guidance and support, and provide updates on status.
- Support the preparation of legal clinics and workshops, including coordinating logistics and materials focused on freelance legal issues.
- Assist with the intake process for complaints, ensuring all necessary information and documentation related to their specific legal concerns is collected and organized.
- Assist the Program Director with various administrative tasks.
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of issues affecting freelancers, such as misclassification, non-payment, intellectual property, and labor rights, is a plus.
