Andrea serves as Executive Director of Freelancers Union, leading the organization’s mission to build economic security, power, and opportunity for independent workers across the United States.

A lifelong organizer and advocate for workers, artists, and communities, Andrea brings more than a decade of experience advancing public policy, nonprofit leadership, coalition building, and civic engagement. Throughout her career, she has worked at the intersection of labor, culture, and economic justice, helping secure public investment, expand access to opportunity, and strengthen the institutions that support working people.

Building on the legacy of founder Sara Horowitz, and previous leaders Caitlin Pearce and Rafael Espinal, Andrea is leading Freelancers Union into its next chapter—expanding protections for independent workers, advancing portable benefits, strengthening legal and policy advocacy, growing a national member community, and ensuring freelancers have a seat at every table where the future of work is being shaped. Under her leadership, Freelancers Union is working to create a new social contract that gives every freelancer access to the benefits, protections, and community they need to thrive.

Jonathan K. Gray is a seasoned benefits leader with more than a decade of experience in insurance, benefits administration, and member services. As Director of Member Benefits at Freelancers Union, he oversees strategic benefits programs serving members nationwide, managing health, dental, vision, life, and disability plans while ensuring compliance with federal regulations. Jonathan has built a career at the intersection of policy, insurance, and member advocacy.

A proud graduate of York College, City University of New York, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Jonathan credits his alma mater with shaping his commitment to public service, leadership, and community impact. He is licensed in Life, Health, and Property & Casualty insurance and is passionate about expanding access to quality benefits for working families and independent professionals.

Jalen runs our coworking space; managing our events, services and community in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. He hopes to create an inviting and accommodating space to all.

As a part-time freelancer, Jalen understands the issues freelancers face first hand which plays a part in how he books our workshop events. He is a multi-disciplinary designer focusing in graphic, web and toy design, as well as photography for bars and restaurants. As Marketing Director, Lana leads the organization’s marketing and communications efforts, managing our newsletter, social media, and everything you see right here on our website. Dylan leads our efforts to support freelancers facing rights violations through the Freelancers Union Legal Clinic.

Dylan has dealt with nonpayment himself, so he knows exactly what freelancers are up against. Whether you’re facing nonpayment issues, need help understanding your rights, or want to know how clauses in a contract affect you, Dylan can advise and help you seek restitution. Dylan got his start in Philadelphia politics, working as a finance director, campaign manager, and later a strategist for the Pennsylvania Working Families Party. Outside of work, you can find him biking around NYC and playing racket sports.

Jonathan supports day-to-day operations, events and community engagement at the Freelancers Hub. He helps foster an accessible, collaborative space where freelancers, entrepreneurs and small business owners can connect, share ideas and grow.
