THE FREELANCER
SURVIVAL GUIDE

Have you ever wished there was a Freelancer Survival Guide? Now, there is.

Thanks to generous funding from the NYC City Council and Department of Youth and Community Development, our nonprofit arm Working Today is thrilled to release our 2025 Freelancer Survival Guide.

By profiling 30 of New York City’s top freelancers, this guide demystifies what freelance life is really like, what it takes to strike out on your own, and how you can do it, too. The magazine also highlights the rich history of Working Today, and the work that has made it possible for scores of independent workers to realize their dreams, without losing out on the benefits provided to full-time employees.

Copies of the guide are available at the Freelancers Hub and selected elected officials’ offices throughout New York City.

FU turns 30

A BIRTHDAY WE’LL
ALWAYS REMEMBER

On September 25, we gathered at Rule of Thirds in Brooklyn with some of our closest partners, biggest champions, and scores of our members to celebrate three decades of Freelancers Union advocacy. We took a look back at how far we’ve come, addressed the current challenges, and discussed how we can set ourselves up for a future in which freelancers can not just survive, but thrive.

We look forward to the next 30 years to come — and many more occasions to celebrate everything we’ve achieved together.
