Endorsements
Our first get-out-the-vote operation was a big success in the New York City Democratic Primary, pushing 15 of 22 candidates to victory. And even though we didn't win every race, we showed our local leaders that we are growing force in New York City, and we deserve the same protections as everyone else.
But the campaign isn't over yet! All of these candidates still have to win in the general election on Tuesday, November 3, and we need your help to get them into City Hall.
City-wide Races
Freelancers Union has endorsed candidates in the city-wide races for Mayor, Public Advocate and Comptroller.
-
Michael Bloomberg
Mayor
Mike Bloomberg has been a strong advocate for independent workers, spearheading this year's successful push to exempt sole proprietors from the Unincorporated Business Tax. He has a unique understanding of the vital role that these workers play in the New York City economy, and is committed to building a social safety net that includes them. We look forward to working with Mike Bloomberg to update the social protections here in New York City, and to advocate for a federal unemployment system for freelancers. Under his leadership, we can make New York City the model for freelancer-friendly policies nationwide.
-
Bill de Blasio
Public Advocate
Bill de Blasio is a progressive reformer who knows that everyone should have access to the social safety net, regardless of how they work. As Public Advocate, he'll lead the fight for affordable health insurance, retirement security, and unemployment protection for New York City's independent workers. Freelancers need an innovative leader; that's why we're endorsing Bill de Blasio for Public Advocate.
-
John Liu
Comptroller
John Liu supports policies and programs that foster entrepreneurship in New York City. He is dedicated to creating a level playing field for independent workers, to make sure they have the same social protections as traditional employees. As Comptroller, John Liu will fight for a wage claim system for independent workers and the elimination of unfair taxes. We're proud to support John Liu for New York City Comptroller.
